It is a great honor and privilege to serve as Chair of the Board of the Korean Community Service Center of Greater Washington (KCSC), an organization that has been serving and strengthening our community for more than five decades.
My journey with KCSC began in the early 2010s, when I was invited to give a medical seminar for KCSC’s Senior Academy. That opportunity became the beginning of a meaningful and lasting relationship with KCSC. I later joined the Board of Directors and have had the privilege of serving in various roles, including on the Health and Education Committee, as Gala Chair, and as Vice Chair of the Board. Through these experiences, I have witnessed firsthand KCSC’s remarkable growth and the expanding impact of its work in our community.
Since its founding in 1974 by a small group of dedicated community members helping newly arriving Korean immigrants, KCSC has grown into a comprehensive community-based organization serving thousands of individuals and families throughout the Greater Washington area. While the needs of our community have evolved, KCSC’s mission remains deeply rooted in helping individuals and families overcome barriers, become empowered, and build healthier and more secure lives.
As I begin my term as Chair, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to our 13th Board Chair, Jina Kim, for her outstanding leadership and dedication over the past four years. Under her leadership, KCSC’s programs and services reached a new level of growth and impact, creating a strong foundation for the organization’s next chapter.
Building upon that foundation, during the next two years, we will continue to expand programs that engage and empower the next generation and provide meaningful opportunities for young people to connect with and serve our community. We will also accelerate the development of KCSC’s Hope Clinic as a community health clinic, strengthening access to essential healthcare for low-income and uninsured individuals and families.
Having been part of KCSC’s journey for many years, I am both humbled and excited to take on this new responsibility. I look forward to working alongside our Board, staff, volunteers, community partners, donors, and supporters to build upon KCSC’s proud history and prepare the organization for the generations to come.
