I am a 59-year-old mother with a son in high school. Last summer, I had a major car accident that totaled my car and, as a result, I could not work. It happened only a couple of months after my shoulder and leg surgeries and, at the time, I had not even finished my rehabilitation. My health only worsened after that. Despite the difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic and being a single parent, I had been able to make ends meet using my credit cards, unemployment benefits, and a tax return refund; however, after the accident, we were facing grave financial difficulties. It was during this time that an acquaintance introduced me to KCSC and I visited the office with just a glimmer of hope. Thankfully, I was able to receive 2 months of rent support, along with support for various utility bills and living expenses. I also received help with accessing Medicaid, food stamps, and energy assistance. I was able to benefit from 2 months of physical therapy, which got my health in good enough shape to start working again. I am truly at a loss for words and can’t even begin to express my gratitude. KCSC is a great place of hope, encouragement, and support for those experiencing sudden difficulties like myself. I will strive to live a life where I can give back even a fraction of this precious help that I received to those in need. Thank you, I am truly grateful.
